Camping in the Northwest - From a family who thought they'd share notes
Kitsap Memorial State Park
Reservations through Washington State Parks.

Kitsap Memorial State Park is a 58-acre camping park with 1,797 feet of saltwater shoreline and facilities for group and individual recreation, weddings and overnight stays. The park offers beautiful natural surroundings and sweeping views of Hood Canal.

Overall.
Unfortunately, we had a miserable time at this park due to real tight spots, bad irrigation from weeks of rain fall and lack of the true camping experience.

Campsite.
During our visit, we arrived in late Spring after some rainfall.  The grounds were real wet, to the point that we were sinking during set up.   The sites assigned to us (#8 and #9) were pretty much just a "parking spot" with the table and firepit right outside our camper (and under our awning if we had put it up.  With the spots so tight, yes, the next door neighbors fire was right outside our camper also.
We cut this weekend short by one day - due to the lack of room at the site, the irrigation not handling the rainfall, and the fact that one camper decided to mix their black water with the ground / mud so the stink was gruesome.
We did get one day's worth of money back from this reservation.  Would NOT recommend this park, even in the warmer months -- it just wasn't attractive, and the lots were packed in there with no room to move around inside your spot.

Campground.
Didn't explore much during our visit.  Looked like it had a nice playground and path to the beach.

Beach.
Unsure

Vicinity.
The city of Poulsbo is always a nice little tourist town with great shops, food, a nice marina and always events going on.

Bikes or No Bikes?
Pretty small park - probably not worth it.

Misc.
  • No park rangers in site during the 2 days at the campground.
  • After filling out a Comment Card and talking to the Park Ranger to let them know how we were let down with this park, we were given a partial refund for our stay.  They apologized for our stay and noted that the park was older and not a lot of funds were available for upgrades.
